Multi-Stripe Guatemalan Textile Pillow

Featuring a hand-woven Guatemalan textile, this pillow is a unique accent piece for your home. Rich in color and beautiful in texture, this Guatemalan Textile Pillow makes a versatile addition to any decor.

Based on ancient Mayan spinning and dyeing techniques, Guatemalan textiles are an enduring link to a rich cultural past. Weavers today (mostly women) still derive colors for their threads from vegetables and minerals, and continue to use the original Mayan loom, also known as a backstrap loom, that consists of rods, rope, and a strap that is worn around the weaver’s waist! With skill and creativity, these Mayan weavers preserve their traditional craft techniques while creating an income for their families.

Following the Civil War in Guatemala (from 1960-1996), many women were widowed and left without an income. Weaving at home has allowed them to support their children through their craft and at the same time develop self-confidence and organizational skills. They have passed these skills on to their daughters and granddaughters and created a successful and self-sustaining enterprise- all while preserving their cultural heritage!

At Larkin Lane, Lark hand selects authentic textiles and collaborates with Guatemalan artisans on the design of each product. Your purchase supports these craftsmen and women. Thank you for the role you play in keeping global textile traditions alive!
