Handwoven in the highlands of Guatemala
The Gabrielle is woven and embroidered by two artisans working in partnership: one weaves the cotton textile by hand on a backstrap loom, and a second artisan completes the embroidery. Where the Evelyn keeps to the huipil's traditional loose, rectangular cut, the Gabrielle is tailored closer to the body for a more fitted, polished silhouette — with a slightly shorter length and a small side slit at each hem for ease of movement.
The result is a more refined take on the huipil, particularly well suited to petite frames, without losing what makes it a huipil: every stitch is still worked by hand, and the story behind it is the same one — women who have practiced this weaving and embroidery tradition for generations, working within a craft passed down through their families.
Provenance
This piece comes from a weaving cooperative of women in the highlands of Guatemala who have practiced this craft for generations. Larkin Lane has worked directly with these artisans for ten years.
How to Wear It
Its tailored fit and side slits make it easy to wear tucked into a skirt or trousers, or on its own for a more polished, put-together look.

Care instructions: Can be machine washed inside out on delicate; we suggest drying flat. The cotton textile can be ironed (suggest ironing inside out) and can also be dry cleaned.
Note: As each piece is entirely handmade, slight variations in weave and embroidery are part of its character, not a flaw

ABOUT THE ARTISAN
Guatemalan weavers are mainly women, who derive natural dyes for their threads from vegetables and minerals. They still use the Mayan back-strap loom along with traditional spinning and embroidery techniques.
Each huipil is measured laid flat. Because these garments are crafted from traditional rectangular textiles, they are designed to drape rather than fit closely. The silhouette adapts beautifully to many body shapes and stages of life.
