Santa Lucia Top - White

The rare statement piece that's remarkably easy to wear. 

The Santa Lucia Top (Huipil) is handwoven in the western highlands of Guatemala using traditional supplementary-weft brocade. The artisan weaves the base cloth and simultaneously introduces decorative threads that float over and under the warp to form the motifs. 

What distinguishes this from other textile traditions is that the graphic shapes and motifs aren't embroidery sitting on top of the finished fabric — they're built into the weave itself. Woven in three panels and joined with decorative randa stitching, each huipil reflects generations of textile tradition and extraordinary skill.

Details

The Santa Lucia has a straight cut with a relaxed fit thoughout. Can be worn untucked and loose, or with a simple belt for a more fitted silhouette.

Aside from being beyond chic, one of the things I love most about the Santa Lucia collection is how passionate our partners are about saving this textile tradition and these pieces that were originally used in weddings and ceremonies. In their words, "It is an art that is, unfortunately, dying because the ladies are not wearing the ceremonial huipiles as much as they used to. Our weavers learned this art from their ancestors, so it is difficult to find someone who can weave and embroider in this style". This statement made such an impact on me, and I was so touched when my partner called me her "fellow crusader" in preserving this craft.
